Robyn + Korwin // A vibrant, quirky American Visionary Art Museum wedding
At this point, I’ve photographed a lot of weddings. Probably like 300. Robyn is an old friend from college so I also knew that her + Korwin’s wedding would be something special, but I don’t think I could have imagined this day. And I’d photographed a wedding at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore before, but I still couldn’t have known how much of themselves they would put into this day.
It all started when Robyn sent me their save the date, which started to clue me in on how much fun this was going to be.
And then she texted me a picture of her dress, specifically chosen to match Fifi the giant pink poodle…
In all my time photographing weddings, I’ve always thought: this is so much time, effort, stress, and money to put into something that doesn’t feel true to yourselves. And what I’ve loved about so many of my couples over the years is that they’ve really gotten that and made their weddings not just your Typical Wedding. It’s made all these hundreds of weddings continue to be fun and magical. But Robyn + Korwin really took it to another level.
Some highlights from the day:
Obviously, the Fifi dress. I’m fairly certain no one who has gotten married at the AVMA has ever twinned Fifi this well. Korwin’s layered patterns were also very fun.
The vibrant, eccentric, Seussical flowers.
The fact that their wedding party and family walked down the aisle as if they were stars in a play, soundtracked by a Looney Tunes song.
The fact that everyone at the wedding really came through on the “Formal Clown” dress code.
An “in absentia” slideshow that played during cocktail hour featuring everyone’s pets, and the reason they were not at the wedding.
It was just special to photograph their wedding knowing that no one else will ever have a wedding quite like it. In a world where everything increasingly feels kind of homogenized and same-y, I love that Robyn and Korwin really let this wedding be them. Such a fun day.
